Vivo Confirms Global Launch of Android 16-Based OriginOS 6 on October 15

Vivo and some other Chinese smartphone companies offer different operating systems for their domestic and international markets. The custom OS available in China is typically more advanced, while a more basic version is offered for the rest of the world. Following this strategy, Vivo developed OriginOS for Chinese consumers, while global models are offered with FunTouchOS. This distinction persisted for a long time, but OriginOS is now gradually expanding internationally.

Recently, Vivo officially announced that OriginOS 6 will be launched worldwide. The company stated that the global unveiling will take place at a special event on October 15th.

As is the company’s tradition, this new version will be introduced in China first. On October 10th, Vivo will introduce OriginOS 6, based on Android 16, in China, followed by an international rollout five days later.

While brands like Motorola have already started distributing Android 16, Vivo and some other Chinese manufacturers are still lagging behind. Expect to see the rollout of Android 16-based OriginOS 6 for eligible Vivo models in the coming months.

At present, the company hasn’t shared many details about the next major software update. However, at the launch event, Vivo will not only reveal the release date and rollout schedule, but will also reveal all the key features.

According to leaked reports surfacing online, OriginOS 6 may include the following changes and new features:

  • A new frosted glass-like theme for the keypad
  • A completely new dynamic island design
  • Improved and smarter AI capabilities
  • Refreshed UI updates across the system, including several elements inspired by iOS 16
  • Smoother and more attractive animations
  • A larger digital clock with an iOS 16-like depth effect on the lockscreen

These potential features are yet to be confirmed. While a global launch is confirmed, it’s hard to say whether the international version will be identical to the Origin version available in China, or whether certain features will be limited to the Chinese market.

Are you looking forward to OriginOS 6 on your Vivo smartphone? What features would you most like to see in this new update? Be sure to share your thoughts.
