Guerilla Games, in collaboration with NCSOFT, has developed a new MMO game, Horizon Steel Frontiers, based on the Horizon series. The game was first revealed through a video leak from a developer conference in South Korea. As soon as the video went viral, the developers released the official trailer for their upcoming mobile-first MMO game.

Horizon Steel Frontiers is designed to work seamlessly across both PC and mobile platforms. Following the tremendous success of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, the developers are expanding this renowned franchise with a new online multiplayer experience.
The game will transport players back to the same post-apocalyptic world, where they can team up with their friends to battle giant machine monsters.

The story of Horizon Steel Frontiers takes place in a region called the Deadlands, primarily inspired by American territories like Arizona and New Mexico. Players take on the role of machine hunters.
Because it’s a full-fledged MMO game, you’ll see other players everywhere—some competing for resources, while others teaming up to help you take down machines.
The action scenes shown in the trailer include spectacular melee combat. While the Horizon series was previously known primarily for ranged combat, this new approach gives it a Monster Hunter-like feel.

The trailer also hints at the inclusion of different character classes or weapon classes. Some players wield long-range weapons, while others engage in close combat with large swords and daggers.
The developers have also promised that Steel Frontiers will retain the Horizon series’ signature system—the system of targeting weak spots to take down enemies.
Players will be able to weaken machines by destroying specific parts of them, earning valuable loot in return. Furthermore, machines can be tamed and used as rides, as in the original Horizon games.

A major highlight of the game will be its character customization system, a popular feature in Korean MMO games. Players will be able to customize their characters to their own style.
Although the developers have not yet shared an official release date, Horizon Steel Frontiers is expected to launch in or after the second half of 2026.
